Explore Hendrix College Hillel
The Hendrix Hillel is growing organization with many new programs each year. The main event Hillel sponsors is a monthly Havdallah service in the Burrow, the campus' coffee house. Our Havdallahs usually bring in around 30 students, Jews and non-Jews alike, and are a great chance for Hendrix College to get a taste of Judaism. We also do events such as setting up a Sukkah and doing programs such as 'Hookah in the Sukkah', or our annual Purim carnival. We also often attend services at the Reform temple in Little Rock (a mere half hour away). For more conservative students, there is an orthodox synagogue in Little Rock as well. The Hillel's programs usually depend on what our members would like to do, and include film festivals, food festivals, and many other fun and engaging programs. Hendrix College has recently established the Crain-Maling Jewish Cultural Center, which serves as a resource for students, faculty, staff, and members of the general public, Jews and non-Jews alike, who wish to engage in the study, discussion, or teaching of Jewish culture. Through lectures, symposia, films, discussions, and associated courses, we promote a broad understanding of Jewish culture as encompassing all aspects of sacred and secular Jewish life as well as its relationship to other cultures. The Center aims to foster interdisciplinary conversations that not only enhance knowledge about Jewish culture and raise awareness of Jewish life on campus but also engender deeper understanding and tolerance across cultures.
