Eligible: Current high school seniors, gap-year students, undergraduate first-years, sophomores, and juniors

Jules and Gwen Knapp believed deeply in the power of higher education to transform the lives of individuals and families, and have dedicated this award to that pursuit. Top applicants will have a current GPA of 2.5 or higher, and a demonstrated impact of leadership, entrepreneurship, and/or volunteerism in their local or campus community. To qualify as a first-generation student, the applicant’s parents/guardians must not have completed a four-year college or university degree.
Renewable for up to three additional school years, in addition to the first year. Not renewable after the fourth school year/payment or the student’s completion an undergraduate degree, whichever comes first.

Yes! You can apply to as many scholarships as you are eligible for. Students who are eligible for this scholarship may also be eligible for the Paulson Leadership Award for Jewish CUNY Students, the Louis E. Rabinowitz Memorial Scholarship, the Ellen B. Fuhr Scholarship for Jewish Women at Hunter College, and the Jack and Harriet Kudine First-Year Student Scholarship
For this scholarship, we define first generation as the applicant’s parent(s) or guardian(s) must not have completed a four-year college or university degree in the United States or Canada.

- January 9, 2025 — Hillel International scholarship applications open
- March 3, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST — Application deadline
- March–June 2025 — All applicants are reviewed by the Hillel International Scholarship Program committee
- June 2025 — Award recipients are chosen and recipients announced
